I walked into Brahmastra expecting a visual mess after poor reviews, but left pleasantly surprised.
Ayan Mukerji’s ambition to merge mythology with modern fantasy is commendable, even if the execution stumbles. Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt sizzle with chemistry, making their love story the film’s emotional anchor. Ranbir’s Shiva is earnest, if occasionally wooden, while Alia’s Ishaa sparkles with warmth.
The supporting cast – Shah Rukh Khan, Nagarjuna, and Amitabh Bachchan – elevate every scene they’re in, though their roles are frustratingly brief.
The real letdown? The VFX. In 2025, the green screen sequences and lackluster fire effects feel straight out of 2010, undermining the film’s grandeur. Yet, the world-building and mythology hooks are intriguing enough to forgive its flaws. Kesariya’s romance and the climax’s spectacle save it from being a total misfire.
6,5/10: a bold, uneven start to a new mythos universe. Here’s hoping Part Two irons out the kinks!
