Frosty French Courtroom Chess
IMDb rating: 7/10
Watched Anatomy of a Fall with subtitles and, I’ll be honest, rather enjoyed the ride even if I’m still scratching my head over the Oscar nominations.
Sandra Hüller is properly brilliant… cool, prickly, and speaking French like someone who’s permanently on the back foot, which is exactly the point. The young lad playing her son delivers one of those rare child performances that doesn’t make you want to hurl something at the screen.
What fascinated me most was peering into the French legal system: no wigs, no theatrical barristers, just a prosecutor who’d happily rummage through your marriage knickers in front of the entire courtroom. It’s less 12 Angry Men, more Kramer vs. Kramer on very frosty steroids. Engrossing, elegantly made, and refuses to spoon-feed you an answer.
Solid 7/10 from me – admired it more than I loved it.
