The Mummy (1999)

The scarab beetles still skitter, the curses still hit, and Brendan Fraser is still the most lovable action hero ever… yep, The Mummy aged like fine wine.

Brendan Fraser is the most likeable action hero ever, Rachel Weisz is witty perfection, and the chemistry between them crackles. The scares (scarab beetles, that sand-wall face) still made the kids yelp and hide behind cushions exactly like I did in ’99. The jokes land, the pace never drags, and the VFX-especially Imhotep’s half-formed creepiness-hold up ridiculously well.

It’s pure Saturday-night adventure: big laughs, proper thrills, a bit of romance, zero cynicism. Honestly, I still can’t believe Tom Cruise’s 2017 reboot with ten times the budget somehow forgot to include fun, charm, or a single memorable character. This one had all of that in spades and never takes itself seriously.

8.5/10: Timeless crowd-pleaser. My kids are already begging for the sequel.
