I’ll be honest, I went into Happy Death Day expecting disposable teen slasher nonsense and came out absolutely buzzing. What a delightful little gem!
Jessica Rothe is a proper star – is there anything this woman can’t do? She drags us from loathing her spoiled brat to properly rooting for her in about three loops flat. Christopher Landon keeps the plate spinning with laser focus: one clever concept, one day, one killer, no bloated subplots, no faff.
It’s Groundhog Day given a sorority-house bloodbath makeover, and somehow it’s warmer, funnier, and more inventive than it has any right to be. Tight as a drum at 96 minutes, packed with laugh-out-loud moments and a few genuine emotional gut-punches.
A twisted, impeccably crafted 7.5/10 that punches miles above its weight.
Blumhouse, take a bow… this one’s an absolute belter.
