At long last, a faint pulse of genuine excitement can be detected in this trilogy’s concluding chapter.
It is apparent that the filmmakers, having spent two features in overly meticulous (and frankly, rather arid) setup, suddenly realised the clock was against them. This finale, while rushed to the point of structural bewilderment, at least delivers the overdue action and urgency the Crisis story always demanded.
Regrettably, the series as a whole suffered from serious, unacceptable pacing issues. To take a goldmine of a story and still manage to produce a five-hour, below-average series is a profound disappointment.
The art and animation are consistent, yet this remains a pale, unsatisfying echo of the cosmic masterpiece it set out to adapt.
