The Mummy Returns (2001)

We fired up The Mummy Returns with the kids expecting more of the same magic – and mostly got it. Solid 7.5/10, just a notch below the near-flawless original.

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are still electric together, the London opening is brilliant, and The Rock’s Scorpion King entrance had us all grinning (even if the CGI scorpion body looks a bit 2001 now). The action rarely lets up: dirigible fights, pygmy mummy swarms, and that epic final showdown are proper Saturday-night stuff. The kids loved the adventure, and the scares were just right.

Only gripe? There’s almost too much going on – three villains, reincarnation flashbacks, kid-in-danger beats. It never gets boring, but it feels stuffed compared to the first film’s breezy perfection.

Still, for big, silly, family-friendly fun with sand, scarabs, and one-liners, it absolutely delivers. We had a blast.
