Still Alice

Devastating, Dignified, Unforgettable & Genuinely Engaging

IMDb rating: 8/10

Nearly a decade after its Oscar win, I finally watched this expecting another arty movie I wouldn’t connect with… and was completely bowled over by how engaging and deeply emotional it is.

Julianne Moore absolutely deserves that Oscar. She single-handedly elevates this to top-class cinema with a performance that’s both technically masterful and utterly heartbreaking. Watching her chart this character’s decline is devastating -she makes you feel every loss, every moment of terrifying awareness.

The entire cast does nice work, and the directors handle the material with intelligence and restraint, never exploiting the subject matter for cheap emotion. It’s beautifully made without calling attention to its craft.

At 8/10, Still Alice proves that difficult subject matter can be both artistically accomplished and genuinely accessible. I was moved, engaged, and impressed throughout.

Don’t let “awards movie” assumptions keep you away… this is powerful, honest filmmaking anchored by an unforgettable performance.
