I liked this movie, especially the first half which is totally great. Tatum gives his best dramatic performance, making you care about a criminal in ways you wouldn’t expect. The robbery setup is clever and engaging, with real charm mixed into the crime story.
The second half is where problems start. The pacing drags significantly… this two-hour movie should’ve had its second hour cut down to 30-40 minutes maximum. Scenes that should move quickly instead linger too long, and the momentum from that strong first half just fades away.
It’s still watchable and enjoyable overall at 6.5/10. Tatum and Dunst have good chemistry, and Cianfrance finds humanity in the true story. But it’s frustrating because this had real potential to be an 8 or 9 with tighter editing.
Worth seeing for Tatum’s performance, but definitely a missed opportunity to be something truly special.
