Jojo Rabbit

Roman Griffin Davis Holds It Together

IMDb rating: 7/10

I put off watching Jojo Rabbit for a long time, convinced it wouldn’t be my kind of film. I was wrong.

The opening stretch is excellent, quickly setting the tone and using satire to establish the world through a child’s eyes. The last section is just as strong, when the film drops the jokes and lets the story hit emotionally.

The problem sits firmly in the middle. That long stretch feels repetitive, circling the same ideas without adding enough new weight. It could have been far tighter, or given more substance to justify the runtime.

Roman Griffin Davis is the standout. For his age, he delivers a surprisingly grounded and confident performance and carries the film with ease. The supporting cast is solid, but this is his film.

Uneven but effective, Jojo Rabbit works best when it commits fully to either satire or sincerity… and it does both very well at the right moments.
