A Decent Watch, But Judy Garland Deserved Better
IMDb rating: 6/10
Renée Zellweger gives a strong performance as Judy Garland in Judy, capturing her fragility and stage presence with sincerity.
The film’s best moments come from her emotional renditions of Garland’s iconic songs, and the visuals and production design effectively evoke the glamour and tragedy of her final days.
However, the script is a letdown. The pacing drags frequently, and the story lacks depth, reducing Judy’s complex life to a series of melodramatic vignettes. Even Zellweger, while impressive, doesn’t reach the league of other Oscar-winning performances… her portrayal feels more like impersonation than a fully realized character study.
6/10: a decent watch, but overhyped. The film doesn’t do justice to Judy Garland’s legend, and Zellweger’s Oscar win feels more like a lack of competition than a triumph of acting.
