Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere has its strengths… Jeremy Allen White’s performance is compelling, capturing Bruce Springsteen’s vulnerability and intensity during a dark creative period. Stephen Graham also shines in his brief but powerful scenes as Springsteen’s troubled father. The film’s exploration of mental health and artistic integrity is meaningful, and the focus on the Nebraska album’s creation is intriguing.
However, the film feels stretched too thin. A two-hour runtime for a story that could have been told in 45-60 min as part of a broader biopic makes the pacing drag. The flashbacks to Springsteen’s childhood add little depth and feel repetitive. While the direction and script have their moments, they don’t do justice to Springsteen’s full life story or the talent of its cast.
6/10: worth watching for the performances, but it’s a missed opportunity to explore a legend’s life beyond one narrow angle.
