I haven’t seen a funnier new film in 2025; this is exactly the relentless, “joke-a-minute” energy I was expecting from the Naked Gun reboot. It is easily the sharpest spoof of British period dramas since Blackadder, pushing every upstairs-downstairs cliché to its breaking point.
The 90-min runtime flies by in a flurry of laugh-out-loud hilarity, anchored by a cracking ensemble that perfectly portrays a dim-witted potpourri of inbred landed gentry (think Downton Abbey). The brilliance lies in its mid-film shift, pivoting into a riotous Agatha Christie whodunnit, complete with a bumbling, Poirot-style detective.
Damian Lewis’s gravity-defying hairdo is a comedic feat in itself. From the clever “Siri” prototypes to the inspired nods to J. R. R. Tolkien and Taylor Swift, the humour ranges from sophisticated wordplay to riotous slapstick.
It’s beautifully crafted, unapologetically silly that breathes fresh life into the spoof genre.
A definitive 8/10 that demands a rewatch.
