Mumbai Saga feels like a time capsule from the late 90s/early 2000s gangster boom… slow-mo walks, blazing guns, and that familiar rise-of-the-don template we’ve seen a dozen times.
Released in 2021, it’s 15-20 years out of date, with a predictable story of mill-land grabs turning a veggie seller into an unstoppable underworld kingpin clashing with a sharp encounter cop. No surprises here; you can call the twists from a mile away. Sanjay Gupta’s stylish action and gritty vibe work for old-school fans, but it lacks fresh edge.
But John Abraham’s menacing intensity and Emraan Hashmi’s swaggy charisma make the face-offs crackle – both deliver good, massy performances that keep you hooked. The ensemble (Mahesh Manjrekar chilling as the politician, Suniel Shetty’s cameo punch) provides solid support, and dialogues land with decent thump, even if nothing groundbreaking.
At 6/10, it was a bit likable for nostalgia and leads’ star power – watchable masala if you’re craving retro underworld drama, but don’t expect innovation.
