Shrek (2001)

Rewatching Shrek with my kids was just as enjoyable as seeing it back in 2001, when the CGI felt genuinely new.

What really holds up is the balance: it has a big heart, sharp humour, and never talks down to its audience. Kids get the silliness and energy, while adults catch the wit and attitude layered underneath.

Every character is instantly memorable, but the real secret weapon is the voice cast. The performances give the film its personality and timing, turning good writing into something that feels alive. The humour lands without forcing it, and the emotional beats are simple but effective.

It is fast, funny, and endlessly rewatchable – a proper family movie where everyone in the room is having fun, not just the kids.
