The 6th Day tackles human cloning with genuine intelligence, exploring ethical questions in 2000 that remain relevant today. Set in the future what’s now the past (2015), the film’s technological predictions feel both dated and prescient… we got smartphones instead of holographic girlfriends, but the cloning debates continue.
The Schwarzenegger vs. Schwarzenegger concept promises double the action but severely underdelivers. Arnold plays both original and clone adequately, though his movements feel graceless and wooden compared to his 80s/early 90s prime.
The supporting cast, particularly Robert Duvall, elevates thin material.
Roger Spottiswoode’s direction is competent but formulaic. The cloning facility provides good set pieces, and a few unexpected twists break predictability. However, most plot beats arrive exactly when expected. The film works as watchable sci-fi entertainment that raises interesting questions without fully exploring them.
Not extraordinary but respectable: a 6/10 representing decent ideas trapped in conventional execution during Arnold’s declining action-star phase.
