Labyrinth (1986)

Watching Labyrinth’s 40th anniversary re-release with my 11-year-old was pure magic. Both of us were completely captivated. 7.5/10.

Yes, the film shows its age visually – the puppetry and practical effects are clearly from another era – but that’s part of its charm. The acting holds up beautifully, with genuine performances that ground the fantasy.

What truly endures is the message about growing up, taking responsibility, and discovering your own power. The fun elements – memorable characters, quotable lines, imaginative world-building – remain completely intact decades later. David Bowie’s presence is magnetic, and the adventure never drags.

It’s a testament to timeless storytelling that a film from 1986 can still enchant both adults and children equally. A classic that earns its cult status.
