Raat Akeli Hai 2 improves on its predecessor with a tighter mystery and more intrigue.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui returns as Inspector Jatil Yadav, anchoring the film with his signature intensity as he navigates a labyrinth of lies, corruption, and family secrets. The story starts slow, but once Yadav begins peeling back the layers, the tension builds effectively. The massacre of the Bansal family isn’t just a whodunit – it’s a scathing look at power, privilege, and the rot beneath the surface.

The ensemble cast shines, especially veterans like Revathi, Deepti Naval, and Chitrangada Singh, who bring depth and nuance to their roles. Radhika Apte’s role is slim, but given her deadpan delivery in the first film, it’s a minor quibble. The real star is the mystery itself, packed with twists that keep you guessing. The bleak ending drives home a harsh truth: justice isn’t always served, even when the truth is uncovered.

While not perfect – some plot threads could have been fleshed out more – the film’s atmosphere, strong performances, and sharp investigative turns make it a compelling watch.

7.5/10: a step up from the original, with enough intrigue to keep you hooked.
