Shrek the Third isn’t quite on the level of the first two films, but it’s still fun and often genuinely funny. The film leans more into family-friendly comedy and coming-of-age themes, giving it a lighter tone than its predecessors.
The voice cast continues to carry the movie. Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy are as sharp as ever, with their timing and chemistry keeping scenes lively. Justin Timberlake is a strong addition as Artie, bringing fresh energy. One standout sequence – the body swap between Donkey and Puss in Boots – is the funniest part of the film, showcasing both actors’ comic timing and the series’ knack for absurd visual gags, although I felt Banderas got the better lines.
Humour hits in bursts, and while the story is less pointed than the first two, it remains an enjoyable ride for families, with enough laughs and heart to make it worthwhile.
