Mad Max 2 is where the series really finds its soul. The first film was a tight revenge story; this one explodes into a full-blown mythic post-apocalyptic Western, and you feel the world getting bigger and wilder.
The bigger budget (still tiny by Hollywood standards) is spent exactly right: epic desert chases, insane vehicle designs, practical stunts that look dangerous because they actually are. No green screen, just real metal and dust.
Mel Gibson’s Max is quieter, harder, more broken… perfect for the lone wanderer who reluctantly becomes a hero. The new characters pop: the crazy Gyro Captain brings weird humor, Wez is terrifying, and Lord Humungus feels like a proper wasteland warlord.
You can see how much Fury Road borrowed from this one… the tanker run, the high-speed convoy battles, the sense of desperate survival. It’s raw, exciting, and still holds up as one of the best action sequels ever made. 7.5/10.
