I wasn’t really expecting this to be as much fun as it was. Solid 7/10 for this unpretentious horror-comedy that offers a fresh take on the Freaky Friday switcheroo.
It held my full attention, no phone scrolling needed, because the comedy-to-horror ratio is spot-on. The balance never tips too far either way… it’s funny when it needs to be, genuinely tense when the horror kicks in.
Kathryn Newton does a good job playing the killer in a teenage girl’s body, but it’s really Vince Vaughn who shines. Watching him play a terrified teenage girl trapped in a serial killer’s body is comedy gold and surprisingly touching. He fully commits to it.
The Scream, Halloween, and slasher movie references are there for fans who want them, but they never overwhelm the story.
Just good, fun entertainment that knows exactly what it is. Sometimes unpretentious fun is exactly what you need.
