Herbert Would Approve: The Visual Triumph That Needed Tighter Editing

IMDb rating: 7/10

I avoided this for years. Loved the books, hated every previous attempt to bring them to screen. But Villeneuve surprised me.

The visual scale is stunning – this feels like Arrakis, finally. The cast is stacked with A-listers who actually deliver. Chalamet handles Paul’s burden well, Ferguson brings depth to Jessica, and Isaac makes Leto genuinely compelling in limited time. Unlike Foundation’s betrayal of Asimov, this stays faithful to Herbert’s vision.

Here’s the catch: the pacing drags. Some scenes linger like this is a slow-burn Netflix series when it should move. Moments that needed tightening instead stall the momentum.

It’s beautifully shot, well-acted, and respectful to the source material, but it doesn’t earn the perfect scores floating around. Those 9/10s and 10/10s feel too generous – this is good, not transcendent.

7.5/10: A solid achievement that exceeded my low expectations, but not the flawless masterpiece some claim. Worth watching if you’ve been skeptical like I was.
