40 Years On, Ghostbusters Delivers: Heart, Humour, and an Earworm That Won’t Quit
B52 rating: 7.5/10

Blimey, rewatching Ghostbusters with the teenage kids was pure magic – still holds up a cracking 7.5/10 all these years later. As a nipper it was one of my absolute favourites, and seeing their faces light up the same way was brilliant.
The effects are understandably dated – 40 years on, no modern VFX wizardry – but who cares when the heart, the comedy, and that infectious sense of fun are timeless?
Bill Murray is pure gold: sarcastic, charming, effortlessly hilarious. Dan Aykroyd’s wide-eyed enthusiasm steals every scene he’s in, Sigourney Weaver brings class and edge, and the whole ensemble (Ramis, Moranis, Hudson, Potts, the lot) clicks perfectly.
There’s just enough spookiness to give the kids a thrill without going too dark, and the whole thing zips along with proper energy. And that bloody song “Who ya gonna call?” still gets stuck in your head for weeks. Nostalgia done right: joyful, clever, and endlessly rewatchable. Proper classic.
