Prisoners is a tense, well-crafted thriller that holds you in its grip from start to finish.
Hugh Jackman delivers a powerful, layered performance as Keller Dover, a father pushed to the edge, while Jake Gyllenhaal’s Detective Loki is equally compelling – a perfect balance of determination and vulnerability.
The tight script and Denis Villeneuve’s masterful direction keep the mystery engaging and unpredictable, even as the story delves into dark, morally ambiguous territory.
This isn’t an easy watch… it’s gritty, intense, and emotionally draining, but the payoff is worth it. The mystery holds strong, and the themes of justice, obsession, and guilt are explored with depth and nuance. The supporting cast (especially Paul Dano and Viola Davis) elevates every scene, making this a standout thriller that lingers long after the credits roll.
7.5/10: not for everyone, but if you appreciate strong performances, tight storytelling, and moral complexity, this is a must-watch.
