This one hurts because it had everything going for it: Damon and Affleck back together, a stacked supporting cast, a ripped-from-the-headlines premise, and Joe Carnahan behind the camera.
You can feel the old-school heist-cop energy they were chasing, and the two leads still have that easy, lived-in chemistry that makes you root for them instantly. Everyone else pulls their weight too… no weak links in the performances.
But damn, it just never catches fire. The script feels like it’s holding back the whole time, piling on twists that don’t land with real weight, and the direction plays it too safe when it should’ve gone harder. What could’ve been a gritty, tense throwback ends up middling and forgettable. Solid watch, never great.
6/10: a missed shot at something special.
