Uncut Gems (2019)

I went into this movie without knowing anything about it, and it was a total shock to the system.

Adam Sandler is unrecognizable as Howard Ratner. He completely sheds his usual “lovable” persona to play someone who genuinely gets under your skin. He’s abrasive and frustrating at first, which is exactly the point, but his commitment to the role makes the character impossible to look away from. The Safdie brothers create an atmosphere of non-stop, gritty tension that mirrors Howard’s frantic gambling addiction perfectly.

The second half is where the movie really shines, delivering a series of sharp twists that kept me guessing until the very end. That finale was incredibly satisfying and left a lasting impact.

It’s a high-stakes masterclass that proves Sandler is a powerhouse dramatic actor when he wants to be.
