Ghostbusters II (1989)

Ghostbusters II is a solid sequel and it was lovely seeing the whole gang back together.

It’s not quite the madcap, wacky joyride of the original; this one dials up the stakes and leans a touch more serious with higher emotional beats (baby in peril, city-wide gloom, that river of mood slime feeding on negativity). But the cast is still pure gold: Bill Murray’s sardonic Venkman, Dan Aykroyd’s earnest Ray, Harold Ramis’s deadpan Egon, Sigourney Weaver’s poised Dana, Rick Moranis’s manic Louis-all of them slip right back into their roles like no time has passed.

The humour’s there, the slime gags are fun, the Statue of Liberty bit is properly bonkers, and the New Year’s Eve finale delivers a satisfying payoff. It doesn’t hit the same heights as the first, but it’s a proper enjoyable reunion with heart, laughs, and enough spooky chaos to keep you grinning.

7/10: Good sequel, worth the rewatch.
