Homefront is a typical but engaging Jason Statham action movie… predictable in plot, but elevated by strong performances, a tight script, and well-directed action.
Statham delivers as the tough but caring father, Phil Broker, and the physical fight scenes are brutal and satisfying. What makes this one stand out is the supporting cast: James Franco as the chillingly calm villain and Winona Ryder as the conflicted, guilt-ridden Sheryl add depth and nuance rarely seen in Statham’s films.
Gary Fleder’s direction keeps the pacing tight, and Sylvester Stallone’s script avoids clichés, focusing on character-driven tension rather than mindless spectacle. The father-daughter dynamic is heartfelt, and the small-town corruption theme adds a layer of realism. While it’s not groundbreaking, it’s a well-executed, entertaining ride with more heart than most action flicks.
7.5/10: not a surprise, but a solid, well-made thriller with standout performances and genuine stakes.
