Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood

Great Acting, Sharp Dialogue, Zero Plot: Pitt and DiCaprio Masterclass Can’t Save Tarantino’s Most Aimless Film

IMDb rating: 6/10

The weakest Tarantino film I’ve seen, and I’ve watched most of his work. But it’s still good.

This movie belongs entirely to Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio… they’re absolutely phenomenal, delivering career-best performances that carry the entire film on their shoulders. There’s a huge mix of top-tier names playing small roles, each making their mark, but ultimately this is just a story about two men navigating fading Hollywood glory.

The individual scenes are genuinely engaging, the character arcs are well-drawn, the dialogue is sharp and quintessentially Tarantino, and the acting across the board is superb.

The final 20 minutes? Absolutely Tarantino brilliance- violent, cathartic, perfect 10/10.

But here’s the problem: the preceding 2.5 hours seriously falter. There’s no coherent story or plot building toward anything important. The pacing is maddeningly uneven, meandering without purpose for long stretches.

It’s a good watch with great craftsmanship, but for a Tarantino film, it’s a genuine letdown – style over substance when it needed both.
