A Good One-Time Watch, But Not Exceptional
IMDb rating: 7/10
Ray is a well-made, emotionally charged biopic that captures the essence of Ray Charles’ life… his genius, struggles, and triumphs. Jamie Foxx’s Oscar-winning performance is nothing short of superb, embodying Charles’ mannerisms, voice, and soul with uncanny precision.
The film does a solid job of portraying his rise from poverty, battle with addiction, and groundbreaking musical career, but it feels a bit long and only scratches the surface of his darker demons. While the affairs and drug abuse are shown, the depth of his personal turmoil could have been explored further.
The cinematography and music are outstanding, but the pacing drags in places. It’s a good one-time watch, but not something I’d revisit often.
7/10: worth seeing for Foxx’s performance and the powerful story, but it doesn’t quite reach exceptional.
