Lamb’s Gambit, River’s Risk
IMDb rating: 8/10
Ep 2 “A Stranger Comes to Town” peels back the layers, and the misdirection, with precision. After the opener’s fake-out, this episode doubles down on the real mystery: Who is Robert Winters? Why target David? The River/David dynamic is emotional and tense, while Lamb’s scheming and Taverner’s cover-up add the usual Slow Horses mix of dark humour and bureaucratic rot.
The French detour (abandoned mansion, warfare books, children’s toys) is creepy and intriguing, though the abduction cliffhanger feels a bit rushed. Hugo Weaving’s Harkness looms as a compelling villain, but we’re still in the dark about the bigger picture.
7.5/10: Not as explosive as the premiere, but the hooks are deeper, the stakes clearer, and the questions sharper. Still hooked in the best way.
