Marriage Story

Love, Loss, and Raw Honesty

IMDb rating: 8/10

I was sceptical but I am glad I watched it finally. Marriage Story is a deeply immersive look at love, loss, and the emotional turbulence of a failing marriage.

Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson deliver performances that feel completely lived-in… you can empathize with them, root for them, or even get frustrated with them, depending on the scene. The writing and Noah Baumbach’s direction strike a rare balance, showing both partners’ perspectives without making either a villain.

The film’s strength lies in its authenticity. Every argument, quiet moment, and awkward interaction resonates, especially for anyone who has experienced marital tension. The custody battle is emotionally riveting, and Laura Dern as the sharp, charismatic lawyer adds extra bite.

It isn’t flawless – the pace drags at times, and the dialogue-heavy scenes can feel stage-like – but it remains engaging throughout.

8/10: Realistic, relatable, and occasionally heartbreaking, Marriage Story is an intimate character study that lingers long after the credits.
