River’s Escape, Chapman’s Fate
IMDb rating: 7/10
Ep 4 “Returns” delivers the action, but misses some of the wit.
The second half is a tense, high-stakes chase: River’s train station escape, Chapman’s brutal fate, and Lamb’s taxi rescue are all edge-of-seat moments. The Les Arbres revelation is a game-changer, and Hugo Weaving’s Frank remains a chilling villain.
But the humour and sharp dialogue take a backseat here. Taverner’s power plays and Flyte’s growing role are compelling, but the dementia-driven David plot feels rushed, and the MI5 infighting lacks the usual bite.
6.5/10: A solid, action-packed mid-season entry, but it sacrifices some of the show’s signature charm for plot momentum.
