Slow Horses: S4.E5 Grave Danger

The Shootout That Justifies the Episode’s Darker Tone

IMDb rating: 7/10

Ep 5 “Grave Danger” delivers the tension, but the wit is thinner on the ground.

The episode doubles down on Frank Harkness’ ruthless efficiency – his home invasion of Molly Doran and manipulation of MI5’s systems are calculated, not showy, and the shootout finale (Patrice’s ambush, Flyte’s fight) is brutal and well-staged.

Lamb’s interrogation and River’s kidnapping keep the plot lean and urgent, while David’s confession about his daughter and the cold body program adds real weight. The MI5 power struggles (Taverner/Whelan) feel familiar, but the action and revelations justify a 7.5/10. A solid, if darker, setup for the finale – no frills, just momentum.
