Queen Nostalgia Hits Hard: Great Music, Solid Ground, Weak on Identity & Look

IMDb rating: 8/10

I grew up blasting Queen songs in my teenage years, so this movie felt like a fun revisit that let me enjoy the hits again while learning more about Freddie’s story. I only really knew he died young from AIDS before watching, so it filled in a lot of gaps.

It’s an engaging watch that covers plenty of ground without losing focus – Bryan Singer kept things moving nicely. The music and live moments deliver exactly what you want.

That said, I didn’t fully buy Rami Malek’s performance; it’s effective but feels overrated, and he never quite captured Freddie’s distinct Parsi look and presence. I also wished they dug deeper into why Freddie wanted to shed his Indian identity early on.

Still, creative liberties and all, it’s a solid, entertaining biopic. 7.5/10.
