Small Story, Lasting Impact
IMDb rating: 7/10
I really liked how Belfast kept things small and personal instead of turning itself into a big political drama. The story is simple, but that’s exactly why it works. It feels like real family memories rather than a scripted “important” movie trying too hard to impress.
The black-and-white cinematography was probably my favourite part. It gives the whole film a nostalgic feeling that pulls you into Buddy’s world immediately. Combined with the music and the street setting, it genuinely feels like looking back at another time through someone’s childhood memories.
The performances are quietly strong across the cast, especially within the family scenes, which feel natural and believable. I also appreciated that it stays around 90-min and doesn’t drag itself out.
It ends on a thoughtful, emotional note that stayed with me afterward. 7.5/10.
