Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker

Cleaning Up the Narrative Mess with High Stakes and Rushed Transformations

This is a massive step up from the last movie, and similar in payoff to The Force Awakens even though it trips over similar flaws.

To be fair, J. J. Abrams was completely backed into a corner because Episode VIII didn’t really move the storyline much. That left this finale with way too much heavy lifting to close the whole saga, making massive arcs like the Rey revelation and the Kylo Ren transformation feel incredibly rushed.

While I wasn’t fully convinced by the final ending, they needed to close things out somehow. At least the action scenes and overall scale were done quite well this time around – they easily beat VIII because there was actual purpose to them.

7.5/10: It’s a solid ride, and I bet we see spin-offs on Rey down the line. At least I hope so.
