Poverty Porn, Satellite Scorn
Ep 13 “Starvin’ Marvin in Space” feels like Men in Black meets Jabba the Hutt – and somehow it works.
The satire of “poverty porn” media hits hard: Sally Struthers hoarding food, Marvin’s family commodified, Cartman’s fake charity hustle. It’s quite funny throughout, never preachy, always sharp. The Mars probe crash parody, the aggression crystal, Kenny’s explosion death… all land. Marvin’s arc from celebrity back to authenticity gives it heart without slowing the pace.
Not the tightest episode, but the satire stays balanced and the jokes stay dumb-smart. If you like your South Park with a side of space chaos and media critique, this delivers.
