Ten Days to Mad Max: The Incredible Rise and Safe Fall of Smiley Town
This episode kicks off with an absolutely brilliant concept, and that initial “adult cleansing” sequence is pure, hilarious genius.
Watching the kids immediately capitalize on a loophole to get their parents locked up, only for the town to completely transform into a desolate, post-apocalyptic wasteland in a matter of days, is classic South Park at its finest. The Mad Max and Children of the Corn parodies are visually spectacular.
However, the second half doesn’t quite sustain that extraordinary momentum. Once the novelty of the tribal kid society wears off, the narrative settles into a somewhat safe and predictable ending to restore the status quo.
It is still a highly creative 8/10 outing, completely carried by one of the strongest and most ambitious first acts of the season.
