The Furious

A New Gold Standard: The Next John Wick, Kill Bill, or Matrix Moment

IMDb rating: 9/10

Every decade produces a movie that redefines action choreography. John Wick came around about a decade ago, and before that it was Kill Bill or The Matrix. The Furious is exceptional in that same regard, and I think it’ll be the gold standard for years to come.

Don’t believe anyone who tells you this is story-less… it has a genuinely good story as its base. The first half establishes the heart of the movie: the dad and his kidnapped daughter, the new friend who steps in as a good samaritan to help. All of this is crucial groundwork – it’s what makes the action feel genuine rather than hollow, keeping you invested instead of zoned out during the chaos.

That said, the film clearly prioritizes action, especially in the second half, and that portion is a 9/10 – nearly perfect.

My only minor quibble: I wish they’d trimmed 5-10 minutes, because once you’ve been shown this level of top-tier choreography, you get spoiled and want it tighter.

8.5/10: Overall, a gold standard in many respects.
