A Super Best 8.5/10 Outing That Got Banned for All the Wrong Reasons
This is an incredibly cool, way-above-average episode that is an absolute masterclass in taking a massive, ambitious concept – bringing together the world’s major religions as a superhero squad – and executing it with perfect, ridiculous comedic timing.
Trey Parker’s deadpan voice portrayal of David Blaine is a brutally sharp, spot-on parody of the real-world magician’s intensely stoic television specials.
But of course, the ultimate historical punchline to this episode is its infamous “banned” status. The absolute irony that a beautifully absurd episode celebrating unity among the “Super Best Friends” got pulled from rotation years later solely for showing Muhammad – who was originally depicted as a heroic, helpful superhero with fire powers – is just chef’s kiss South Park history.
8.5/10.
