Emilia Jones and Troy Kotsur Shine in a Predictable but Moving Story
I found CODA to be a heartwarming, well-written film that shines brightest thanks to its exceptional performances, particularly from Emilia Jones and Troy Kotsur.
The story is engaging, emotional, and grounded in authenticity, offering a genuine look at the dynamics of a deaf family and the struggles of a young woman torn between duty and passion. The chemistry among the cast feels real, and the film’s emotional beats land with sincerity.
That said, it’s not without its flaws. The middle act drags a bit, with some repetitive moments that could have been tightened, and the ending, while satisfying, follows a fairly predictable path.
It’s a solid, enjoyable movie, but it doesn’t quite reach the heights of a Best Picture Oscar winner – especially when compared to classics like Khamoshi: The Musical, which explored a similar concept with even more depth and originality – and great music.
7.5/10: a touching, well-crafted film that’s easy to root for, even if it doesn’t redefine the genre.
