Seed of the Musical
I liked the episode. A perfect Mormon family moves in, Stan gets told to beat up their son Gary, and instead ends up at Family Home Evening learning the whole Joseph Smith story with that “dumb dumb dumb” chorus running through it. That chorus was the best part and I am still humming! The flashbacks are sharp and the way their politeness completely disarms both Stan and Randy works well.
I haven’t known any Mormons myself, so I didn’t fully appreciate the more specific humour or satire. What still landed was the broader take on religious conversion and how a belief system can look ridiculous on paper yet still produce really decent, functional families.
Knowing this episode helped plant the seed for the Broadway musical gives it a bit of extra interest for me.
6/10: Solid overall, just not one that fully clicked on a personal level.
