Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom

Silly, Spooky and Still Making Us Laugh

I used to watch Shaun the Sheep with my son, and Farmageddon was the last time we watched one of these films together. Seven years later, he is now 15, but he still wanted to see this one, and we ended up laughing together just as much!

The opening takes a little time to get going, but once the main plot kicks in, the comedy is absolutely hilarious. Aardman knows exactly how to make the most of visual gags, absurd situations and perfectly timed physical comedy, and this film is a terrific example of that craft. The stop-motion animation is superb, with so much detail and personality in every frame.

Of course, you have to approach it in the right frame of mind. This is primarily aimed at children around 5-8 years old, and it doesn’t pretend to be anything else. But if you can embrace its silly, good-natured humour, there is plenty to enjoy here, even as an adult. 7.5/10.
