Flipping Stereotypes and Fulfilling Dolphin Dreams
Trey and Matt kick off season nine with a premise that feels even more topical today than it did twenty-five years ago. Mr. Garrison’s sex change was incredibly ahead of its time, but the real comedic gold lies in the brilliant subversion of stereotypes.
Just when you expect a predictable punchline, the show flips the script entirely when Kyle dominates the basketball court, completely destroying Cartman’s smug claim that Jews cannot play basketball. Then, out of absolute nowhere, Gerald Broflovski fulfills his lifelong dream of becoming a dolphin.
It is pure, unapologetic absurdity executed with sharp comedic precision. The writers tackle sensitive subjects without ever losing the show’s signature edge or resorting to cheap, modern apologies. This episode sets a flawless, hilarious tone for the entire season.
8.5/10: A fantastic season start. It is exactly the kind of bold television we need.
