Descendants: The Rise of Red

Fun Tonight, Gone Tomorrow

I watched this with my teen daughter, and we both had a decent time… that’s the honest summary.

The new leads bring real energy, the songs are catchy in the moment, and the mother-daughter hook gives the story more heart than I expected. The production looks glossy and colorful, and Disney clearly spent real money here.

But something is missing. The magic of the earlier films doesn’t fully carry over, and the plot leans on convenient twists that never surprised either of us. The jokes land about half the time, and the emotional beats feel rushed where they should hit hardest.

We were entertained for the runtime, and I don’t regret the evening… yet I know neither of us will be quoting it or rewatching it next month.

5.5/10: Watchable, occasionally fun, instantly forgettable. I wanted to love it; I only liked bits of it.
