When Sparky Came Out of the Closet
Ep 4 “Big Gay Al’s Big Gay Boat Ride” takes South Park into bold territory with its exploration of homosexuality – yes, even in animals. The idea of a gay dog and a sanctuary for gay animals is as absurd as it is brilliant, and Big Gay Al’s flamboyant charm steals the show.
It is particularly a standout for the George Clooney voice-over as the gay dog Sparky, and voicing his various barks.
However, the episode’s political jab at Republicans feels a bit heavy-handed for my taste. I prefer South Park when it’s just being wacky and outrageous without leaning into partisan bias.
Still, the humour and creativity earn it a solid 7/10. The boat ride sequence alone is worth the watch, even if the message occasionally overshadows the madness.
