South Park: S4.E1 The Tooth Fairy’s Tats 2000

Taking Childhood Innocence to a Brilliant Extreme

I knew I was back home the second Cartman started running a black-market dental syndicate just to buy a Sega Dreamcast.

This premiere hits that perfect sweet spot by using the show’s absolute best playbook tactic: taking a totally innocent childhood milestone and mutating it into an extreme mob conspiracy. The tiny Marlon Brando parody running a rival kid mafia is hilarious, and the corporate greed jokes land perfectly. My only real issue is Kyle’s bizarre existential crisis, which completely stalls the narrative momentum and stops the episode from being an out-of-the-park home run. Even with that slow patch, the clueless dentists kept me laughing.

7/10: It is a solid, incredibly comforting return to the playground chaos I love.
