South Park: S4.E2 Cartman’s Silly Hate Crime 2000

Peak South Park Political Sarcasm

I consider this one of the best episodes from the early seasons.

The writers brilliantly tear apart the media hype and legal exaggerations surrounding federal hate crimes, using total sarcasm to show how ridiculous the whole situation can get.

The gags hit hard and fast here, especially that hilarious, snail-paced OJ Simpson style car chase with Kenny’s battery-powered toy car. Even the juvenile hall sequence works perfectly as a sharp spoof of The Shawshank Redemption and standard prison movie tropes. Balancing a high-stakes playground sled race with heavy political satire is exactly why I love this show.

8.5/10: It is an incredibly smart, funny, and memorable standout.
