Winter: S1.E6

Another Good Case Cut Short by Personal Drama

IMDb rating: 6/10

Once again, Winter has a good case on its hands, but only seems interested in telling half of it. The investigation into the captive women has plenty of potential, and the forensic clues make for an engaging mystery.

But just as the case gets going, the episode rushes towards a resolution, leaving too much unexplored. It is frustrating because the crime itself deserved more attention.

Instead, we get yet more of Winter’s obsession with Simone’s murder and Bell’s disastrous marriage. The Simone storyline has dragged on for so long that I am losing patience with it, especially when this season ends without giving us a proper resolution. And Bell really needs to decide what she wants and move on with her life. Her personal drama has taken up far too much room in a six-episode series.

There are some good ideas here, but the priorities are all wrong. The case earns this episode some credit; the rest leaves me disappointed.
