Golda

I watched this without much historical baggage, mainly out of curiosity about Golda Meir, a leader I had heard about very positively as a child. The film gave me an interesting perspective on the person behind that public image, balancing the human being, the politician and, occasionally, the leader facing an extraordinary crisis.

I particularly liked the way it moves between two timelines: the events of the Yom Kippur War and the later inquiry into the failures surrounding it. That structure makes the film more engaging than a straightforward account of the seven-day conflict might have been.

Helen Mirren is excellent in the lead, bringing restraint and vulnerability to a woman who had to carry enormous responsibility while privately battling serious illness.

7/10: This is not a fast-paced war drama. It takes its time, relying heavily on conversations and political deliberations. It needs a little patience, but I never found it boring. A good, thoughtful watch.
